Nepal Water Project

25hours hotels support Viva con Agua WASH projects (WAter, Sanitation, Hygiene). A part of each online booking on 25hours-hotels.com goes towards supporting projects in Nepal.

748 million people around the world have no access to clean drinking water; more than 2.5 billion people have no adequate basic sanitation facilites at their disposal. These figures moved former FC St. Pauli footballer Benjamin Adrion that, in 2006, he founded the association Viva con Agua. In collaboration with Welthungerhilfe, his association campaigns for the implementation of various international water projects.

After a water project launched in northern India in 2012 by Viva con Agua and Welthungerhilfe (WHH) achieved great results surprisingly quickly, the organisation expanded the project to include southern Nepal. Together with WHH and the local partner organisation, RRN (Rural Reconstruction Nepal), Viva con Agua now supports projects in rural areas of Nepal.

The project focuses strongly on local schools. Due to long ways to school, it is of uttermost importance that the schools are equipped with clean drinking water and sanitation facilities. Further, hygiene sensitization is particularly effective with children as they tend to adopt new behaviour quickly.

The current projects in Nepal, India, Ethiopia, Burkina Faso and Uganda range from the construction of latrines to the digging of wells. They are also called WASH projects for short: water, art, sanitation and hygiene. The constant accompanying theme is ‘water for all, all for water’.

The association, which is well connected, is calling for donations in a creative fashion. Collecting drinking cup deposits at some 140 festivals, the sales revenue from its very own mineral water brand Viva con Agua and charity runs are just a few of the ways the club is collecting money for its cause. Since 2006 Viva con Agua has been able to raise around 12 million euros to finance water projects - improving the living conditions of more than three million people worldwide.
