Artist in Residence.

The artistic heart of the 25hours Hotel Langstrasse is the hotel’s studio on the ground floor. It is a workspace for international and domestic artists, who produce and prepare for their exhibitions, presentations, or collaborations on-site. The hotel’s studio is occupied by guest artists for 12 to 14 weeks, each year. A residency can last from one to four weeks. Each artist leaves one of their artworks behind at the hotel at the end of their residency. The art collection can be viewed at the hotel, free of charge. The studio is curated and managed by Esther Eppstein, an artist and curator from Zurich.

Artists in Residence

Ed Young
12 August to 8 September 2019

With his provocative and socio-critical interventions in galleries and art institutions, and as co-operator of a project room in his home city of Cape Town, South African artist Ed Young has risen to fame. Ed Young plays with the role of the artist as the jester, entertainer and admonisher, and provokes viewers with works which critically mirror South African society and the Western-oriented art industry with subversive humour and zestful incorrectness. During his stay at the hotel studio, Ed Young presents an installation in the shop windows of the “Die Diele” off-space in the Langstrasse district.

Eva Vuillemin
28 July to 12 August 2019

Born in Zurich, Eva Vuillemin lives and works in Berlin, where she studied for a master’s degree in art at the University of the Arts. The young artist works with videos and analogue photography, and has an artistic interest in technical craftmanship in the photo laboratory and in manipulating, editing and accentuating imagery through exposure, superimposition and chemicals. The actual image is first produced in the darkroom. Eva Vuillemin has been commissioned by the 25hours Hotel Langstrasse to create exclusive, large-scale photographs. During her stay, the artist roams the Langstrasse district with her camera in hand and the familiar yet also distanced view of someone who hasn’t lived there for quite some time. Back in Berlin, a subjective and personal homage to Langstrasse emerges from her studio.
